Fox Tales & Prairie - Behind the Design

Our new Fox Tales and Prairie prints are inspired by my go-to inspiration source – nature. Growing up in England, we regularly had foxes visiting our garden. The preserve of open space near my childhood home meant our garden was often used as a pass-through for woodland creatures.

Most people want to deter foxes because of small pets, much like the coyote here in the US. But there was always something magical about a visit from Mr. Fox! I loved his orangey-brown coat and his intelligent, curious look. Always highly aware of his surroundings, he never stayed long, so catching a glimpse felt like a treat.

The colors we used for this print are warm, watery tones that are vibrant and delicate at the same time. Paired with a white-on-grey Prairie design, we love the gender-neutral ease of the two-print combo.

I love the colors from these images captured by our Graphic Designer and her husband in the hills around their home in Northern California.

I worked with our textile designer to capture these real-life colors on Fox Tales. I wanted the perfect mix of delicate and vibrant, and I think even the fox in the photo would have been happy with how the textile turned out.
