Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
We (Ronnie and I) have 3 girls (18, 16 and 7) and they are our everything. Now that we have one going off to college, we are really sympathizing with our own parents (who are back in Europe) and we really hope they will choose to stay close to us when they settle down. Luckily, we are far from empty nesters!
What has been the best memory of starting a company with your partner?
Oh my gosh! All the funny stories that were torturous to me back when we began and are funny now. Not to say that we don’t still have some of those moments, but the absolute struggle in the first years of getting the company off the ground, while trying to raise a young family – those stories were not as funny at the time, but we can really appreciate them today.
What product(s) are you most proud of?
It has to be the nursing cover. Like most great products, the simplicity of it, is the beauty of it.
If you could describe motherhood/fatherhood in one word, what would it be?
Wow, what a great question…’Unbelievable’ I think that covers it all! Haha. Sometimes you won’t believe the situations you find yourself in – diaper blow-outs, explaining all sorts of things to a toddler, moments that make your heart practically burst with pride. Unbelievably amazing highs and sometimes unbelievably low-lows. Gladly, they balance out in the positive.
How do the children in your life inspire you?
I just want to be the best version of myself for our kids. I want them to be as proud of me, as I am of them. That motivates and inspires me.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
It’s a constant struggle. I try to focus on work when I’m at work and focus on the family when I am with them, but it would be an absolute LUXURY to be able to focus on one at a time.
What advice do you have for new parents?
Quality, over quantity. You can be with your kids all day long, but not really be present with them. Or you can be apart from them all day long and really make it count when you are together. Either way, make some time for them to really be present and make them feel heard.
What can we expect from BAL in the future?
Our philosophy is to create products that parents reach for all day long, so we will continue to support all aspects of parenting adding style and innovation through the journey. We have some fun products coming up that we are really excited about!
